What’s The Difference Between Synthetic vs. Conventional Oil?

Oil Change

Engine oil is one of the most important components of your vehicle’s health and performance. Engine oil keeps the various metallic parts moving in and out of each other lubricated, as well as keeps your engine from overheating.

But like many car components, they wear and must be changed in order for the vehicle to perform at top capacity on the roads of Clovis, especially oil. But not many of our customers know the difference between synthetic vs. conventional oil?

Use this guide to learn more about synthetic oil vs. synthetic blend to see what’s best for your new or used car. If you need an oil change, feel free to visit our Fresno service center at Western Motors Fresno for an oil change! Schedule a service appointment today!

What’s Conventional Oil?

Conventional (regular) oil is a petroleum-based substance that is used in internal combustion engines to lubricate internal parts and reduce engine wear. Motor oil is extracted from crude oil that’s mined from the ground, and it also serves to cool your engine and prevent overheating.

What’s Synthetic Oil?

Synthetic oil is very similar to conventional oil but it’s been improved for more reliability and function on your engine. When our Visalia customers change to synthetic oil, it oxidizes and wears slower than conventional oil. Synthetic oil is chemically developed from petrochemicals that pinpoint properties that make them superior to conventional oils. See other properties of synthetic oil:

  • Are less viscous at lower temperatures
  • Offer enhanced engine cleaning properties
  • Better protect critical turbocharger parts

What’s the Difference Between Full Synthetic Oil vs. Synthetic Blend?

When comparing full synthetic oil vs. synthetic blend, you’ll find that they’re somewhat different from one another. When full synthetic is 100%, the synthetic blend is a mix of synthetic and conventional. By using a synthetic blend, you get its low-price and with conventional oil, you get its enhanced properties!

Also note: Some vehicles require full synthetic oil, and that could just include your vehicle! Be sure to check your owner’s manual or contact our service experts if in doubt about what kind of oil your car requires.
